MOTOR VEHICLE APPEAL INFORMATION

Hall County motor vehicle owners should file an appeal on their motor vehicle value if said vehicle has above average mileage or has been significantly damaged by a wreck. This appeal availability has been covered over for many years resulting in the fact that most vehicle owners are not aware they can appeal the value assigned to their vehicle by tax officials. Depending upon the condition of the vehicle or other factors, some vehicles are worth less than the state uniform value required to be used by the Hall County Tax Commissioner. Georgia law requires motor vehicle values to reflect the average of the current fair market value and the current wholesale value. The state valuation manual assumes average mileage and average condition with no high mileage adjustment or significant damage adjustment. The NADA Used Vehicle Guide includes a high mileage chart you can review to see if your vehicle exceeds normal mileage. This publication is available at the Hall County Library. You can also calculate your vehicle valuation at www.nadaguides.com if you wish at no charge to substantiate your appeal. This appeal must be filed before the deadline for payment of the tax on the MOTOR VEHICLE APPEAL FORM. This form may be obtained by contacting Tim Barrett, Personal Property Auditor, at 770-531-6747. Mr. Barrett is in charge of motor vehicle appeals according to the tax assessor website. Failure to file this appeal in a timely manner will result in a loss of your appeal rights. More information will be posted on our website at a future date regarding motor vehicle appeals.
